The Northern Empire is enriched by Mercenary Adventurers whose ‘personal initiative’ makes them different to those found elsewhere. Whether a hardened pathfinder from Eartholme taking a break from solitary prospecting, a treasure keen success from Keys, or a neer’do’well up-for-it face from Deci. All might not be as group disciplined as some found in the ‘Rest and Halgar but have the sort of skills often useful to the Commisent. Determined individuals they tend to be reliable and can be had for the day by the city.
Whilst most cities construct fine Volksraad’s Halls in the form of great Keeps Deci, as ever, goes its own way, not seeking some facsimile of a keep in a city where such would reek of conquest, nor of actually putting up anything resembling a fight by honest means! It might be true to say that half the third age adventurers of the Empire claim Deci in their origins, and they might well be right. Here and the early jobs are doled out, the Gnoll hunts and the cave clearances. Here those that think Cheapside is the equal to any dire dungeon come, and learn a few hard lessons in the days that follow.
The Keep such as it ever was, is now a Hold, a place that whilst as sturdy as before is now considerably more open and becomes a place that more closely resembles a market and where adventurers, spearmen, even the knife-boys of Deci thinking the world is the same as their streets might come. Not only to find work, or seek bounties, but to boast and (here) fight. It is soon a place with broken stools and blood-stained boards, smelling of socks and sweat, and decorated with broken teeth.
The inside is divided into suites where a Guild, even a Church, might take for themselves a little territory in this city where those grown here understand that well, and those that weren’t but say they were play along or look like right outsiders. It serves both to gather, to plot, and to form up parties or just for those with the knack for it (or an eye to their past) might gather to boast and swap old stories and here is where those seeking hire would best gather in the heart of Old Deci.
