At the heart of The Mercantile Quarter, if not its geographical centre, is where Decis Craft Guilds gather and know power. It is also from here that their influence is both concentrated and directed to places perhaps beyond the borders of their territory and whilst the Hundred Chambers is of a different hue to elsewhere still their influence is as great. Here gather both the Sires and Masters of Decis Craft Guilds but also those from other city at times when great matters are discussed, typically when Deci city holds its one great festival each year.
Deci has a long tradition of Craft Guilds, the quantity, quality and culture the like of which are seen no where else in the Empire. Known as The Hundred due to their seemingly endless halls they have long held great influence within Deci. Rumoured to have served Amora during his time of exile in Deci he did his best to destroy them on coming to the throne as he did with any faction or individual who did not conform to his specific vision of Empire and whos influence might rival his rule. He feared their strength and their reach but in the last decade they have recovered somewhat from his attempts to exterminate them.
Their infamous lack of tolerance for those who practice their arts without being part of their number, the hated artisans, is well known and an artisan would be wise to take care when trying to ply his art in Deci, home to Assassins, Poisoners and others happy to remove non-guilded rivals for a simple fee.
The Chambers themselves centre about a circular chamber ringed with rows of seats and under the banners of the Guilds. The size of a Cathedral, the Grand Hundred effectively centre the Guilds power, giving Deci influence over those elsewhere in the Empire, the nature and power of the Hundred notwithstanding, a vast meeting Hall where the Masters, Sires and Grand Sires of The Hundreds Guilds meet to hold conference, to discuss matters of Guild and City and to attend to their politics which, despite being filled with commoners, are no less convoluted than those of the Nobility.
These are the Commoners who have made good, who have inched up the slippery pole of power within the complex fabric of Deci. The guilds are often composed of families who have long been part of that guild and each guild is said to have had its origins in some gang or in its distant past some thievery. In fact, when the young in Deci mature and leave behind the protection of the gangs it is usually to the protection of Guild that they turn and where once the gang was their home the guild becomes such.
Unsurprisingly then the members of The Hundred are proud, arrogant and often, as the Traditions of their Guild dictate, cruel and dangerous, ever so very Deci. Yet they are not fools, being sly, intelligent and reasoning, knowing what ultimately is good for them, good for their trade and good for the city. Within Deci the unified Hundred are a force to be reckoned with and within the great hall of The Grand Hundred their power is absolute.
