The Cart and Hammer is the tavern found at the heart of Forgetown and, as taverns go, matches the overall nature of Forgetown in that it is a pretty rough and ready place, the patrons ever ready to solve disputes with their fists, however unlike Deci it has none of the spite and malice of that dark city and fights are often little more than a good way to introduce oneself and a way to get to know the locals.
The tavern sits next to Jander's Hallowed Forge, right where thirsty smiths and supplicants might take respite from the heat of the smithies and quench their thirst.
Despite the grand ideas of Master Halfblack, inspired by the luxurious Red Harlot tavern in Gressen owned by his mercantile colleague Sire Haruld The Cart and Hammer is little more than a rough, wooden sided tavern where traders and other travellers drink and gamble a little. Smiths frequent the place to show how tough they are and artisans hide here where Deci's powerful craft Guilds, The Hundred, don’t see them. There is a ratty old piano in one corner which Master Halfblack is known to play (badly) on his visits and a long mirror behind the bar, both courtesy of Sire Haruld.
The Cart and Hammer caters to the sort of people that frequent Forgetown who after all if they wished for Gressen would probably be able to make their way there instead and is very much a rough and ready place. Brawls and fist fights are very much the order of the day. Over time Mayor Borealis has managed to set himself up nicely such that the Cart and Hammer is as profitable to him as it is for Master Halfblack. Careful encouragement of Master Halfblack’s customer’s the night before to indulge leads to a string of customers the morning after and decent hangover cures don’t come cheap…
